9/26: CT scan with contrast of chest and neck shows possible cancer: further test are needed to confirm.
- Scans are showing possible signs of cancer near the area where the mass was removed and in the back of the tongue. In addition, scans show possible cancer in the right side of the neck.
Doctors suggested more scans (PET) and biopsies to confirm diagnosis and develop a treatment plan.
Story:
Before graduating, Wendy had been feeling constant pain and discomfort with a mouth sore that turned into a small mass. She knew something was wrong so she went to a specialist where he advised her to immediately go to MD Anderson Cancer Center and get a tongue biopsy.
A few days later, Wendy received the devastating news that she had cancer on her tongue and on the left side of her neck. In addition, after a few scans, the doctors believed there was a high possibility that she also has cancer in her spleen. There was an attempt to do a spleen biopsy but it was too risky and too small to access the spot on the scan so they decided to keep an eye on it.
She was scheduled for surgery on her 22nd birthday to remove the mass on her tongue and 31 lymph nodes on the left side of her neck. Due to the position of the mass, she had to get her tongue reconstructed with tissue from her arm. Shortly after the surgery, she began both chemo and radiation for a total of 6 weeks. This difficult and painful process has been a long journey for Wendy but it does not stop here.
Unfortunately, a few days ago her school insurance expired after completing her bachelors degree. Because she is uninsured, she has to pay all medical expenses out of pocket. She fears she may have to cancel her upcoming scans and follow ups due to the monetary barrier. Please help Wendy continue her battle with cancer by donating any amount. Any money raised will go towards Wendy's medical expenses and ongoing care.
