Don't Have To Live Like a Refugee: Hacking the Syrian Refugee Crisis in Greece

Why the refugee crisis?

Educational nonprofit Effect.org has been taking volunteer groups around the world to work on social issues like education, human trafficking and disaster relief. Worldwide, we’re facing the biggest refugee crisis of our time, and Effect.org is taking another group to help. Over 3 million people are fleeing Syria as a result of violent civil war in the country. 6.5 million individuals, families, women and children have been displaced inside of Syria, with millions seeking refuge across Europe.

In 2016, over 123,000 people arrived in Greece, and the country has accepted just over 57,000 refugees. This isn’t a problem for Europe and the Middle East, it is a global issue that impacts all of us. To address this issue, Effect.org is encouraging volunteers to work together to create change.

What am I doing?

This year, Effect.org will take a group of volunteers from Salesforce (as well at other tech companies) to Greece, on a seven day expedition. We’ll learn about the crisis first-hand, working with nonprofits, community leaders and locals to understand their biggest challenges. Then, we’ll develop solutions and build innovative tools to create change during a Hackathon!

How can you help?

Donate!

My goal is to raise $5,000 to help fund Effect.org for my volunteer time in-country. Donations will fund grants to Greek nonprofits we work with, effect school openings in India, and my volunteer time. I’m paying for my lodging and travel.

Every dollar we raise will make a difference to families affected by the refugee crisis.

Can’t donate? Share this effort on social media! More awareness means more action.
All donations are 501(c)3 tax deductible by nonprofit Effect.org.
