Helping a Tanzanian's Education

$8,076 of $9,000 goal

Raised by 46 people in 13 months
Created December 5, 2017
My goal is to fundraise $AUD 9000, for the education fees of a Tanzanian- Emmanueli, to enable him to complete his Diploma in Safari Guiding and Wildlife Management.

I met Emmanueli in Africa late last year. He was my head guide in my climb of Africa’s tallest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro.  He impressed the expedition party of twenty with his skill and leadership capacity. On the night of the grueling final ascent to the summit, which began at midnight, I turned back suffering from High Altitude Mountain Sickness.

I self-rescued from that altitude, supported by Emmanueli locking arms with me,  to run through total darkness down steep volcanic scree slopes for over 2 hours to reach base camp.  At 5.30 am, over a hot drink to warm up, Emmanueli shared with me his dream of furthering his education, enabling him to progress in his career. However, the fees were beyond his means. Emmanueli’s strong aspiration for an education moved me to action.  As dawn approached, I  pledged to help my trekking hero complete his diploma, and this campaign was born.

My aim is to raise Emmanueli's education funds in 12 months. This is a non-tax deductable venture, but one that will enable him to reach his full potential as a leader, educator and protector of African wildlife.

Tanzania is a poor country. The average wage for a Tanzanian is just USD $3 per day.  Emmanueli is part of a new generation that, if provided with educational opportunity,  can bring hope and offer leadership for African nations to move forward into the future-both for their people, and for the wildlife they manage.

Gaining a Diploma will enable Emmanueli to obtain more consistent work as a safari guide and wildlife manager. Steady employment will better position him to support and provide for his children.  Every $1 raised towards Emmanueli’s education will have a multiplying effect. The long term value of this investment is not only in Emmanueli’s future, but that of his children’s  education as well.

I believe in absolute transparency how the funds raised will be used.  I am doing this at very low cost, with an important provision to travel back to Tanzania, July 2019, to oversee Emmanueli’s College Education in Arusha, Tanzania.

This journey is ongoing and your donation, however small, will make a huge difference.  Please join me in making a difference by helping this aspirational young man in Africa to fulfill his dream of gaining an education.

Please share this campaign to your friends, to spread the word.
Thankyou so much in advance!

As Nelson Mandela said:  ‘Education has the power to change the world.’

Sincerely,

Catherine

Happy Christmas from Tanzania!
After twelve months of hard work, I’ve reached over $AU8000 in fundraising. Emmanueli commenced his two year Diploma in Safari Guiding and Wildlife Management in September 2018.
Thankyou all donors for your wonderful support of this aspirational young man. You have seen the value in giving Emmanueli his education, bringing hope for a secure future for both him and his young family.
I plan to travel back to Tanzania to oversee Emmanueli’s studies in July 2019.
'God Bless you and thankyou to all donors' from Emmanueli

African Ark 2019 calendar is here! A great Christmas present, it is available from me $35 +pp. and you will be helping with Emmanueli’s Diploma fees.
Emmanueli is really enjoying his lectures. He is learning lots about the biology of the wildlife that he will watch over and protect, in his new career.
The campaign has reached over $6000 this weekend, which is higher than the height of Mt Kilimanjaro in metres! It is continuing with sales from my website, and by direct donations.
If you could support my GoFundMe by telling all your friends of this campaign, I would greatly appreciate it. Here is the link to my GoFundMe campaign.

Every donation, large or small, or share to a few of your friends, will get me closer to fulfilling my goal by Dec 5th- the 12 month anniversary of my campaign to fund Emmanueli’s Diploma!

This view is the glacier on top of Mt Kili- sadly, gone in another 20 years due to climatic change.
