Support for Diane McDermott

Donation protected
This account was established as a means to offer up support to our sister, friend, and colleague, Diane McDermott. Due to a recent, unfortunate and frightening experience, Diane will need support in several ways, including financially.

The Backstory

On the afternoon of March 2nd, 2019, Diane was driving uptown and pulled over to answer a text message. She was sitting in her car in the SECU parking lot and was assaulted by a man who was attempting to steal her car. This heinous act happened in broad daylight. His savage and cowardly attack left Diane with several broken bones in her face, including a severely broken nose.

This attack was completely unprovoked. The man had attacked another woman just a few hours earlier in an attempt to gain access to her car as well.  He was later taken down by the K-9 unit and is in police custody .

What is happening now

Diane is currently surrounded by those closest to her.  At this time, we are requesting limited visits for two very critical reasons.

The first, is Diane’s natural personality.  She is an introvert and this level of attention is very uncomfortable for her. Even those who love her know to give her space while she processes and heals from this experience.

The second reason is for her safety. During the winter, there is a significant increase in the number of cold and flu cases. In light of the extensive injuries to her nose, mouth and sinuses, she is especially susceptible to respiratory issues and it is absolutely critical to keep her healthy.

How best to support Diane

Diane is self-employed. During her recovery, she’ll not be able to earn income until she is well. This will likely take several months. At this time, what she needs most is rest and financial support. Her medical bills alone are expected to be upwards of $25,000.  This does not include her basic living expenses.  All funds contributed will be used exclusively for Diane’s medical and living expenses.

$25 = Basic Toiletries for 1-2 months
$50 = Electric Bill for one month
$150 = 2 weeks of groceries

Please contribute as much as you’re able and in a timely way. We’d like to keep her stress level down and help her stay ahead of her medical bills and personal expenses.

We will also be starting a meal planning schedule for her.  At this time, she is limited in what she can eat.  Soft foods (smoothies, soup etc.) are all she can manage. She’s also a vegetarian.  We’ll be sharing the link for meal delivery soon.

Thank you for your support and love

Diane is a brave, vibrant, and powerful woman. She will persevere.  The road ahead, however, is a long one.  She didn’t deserve this, and this experience will impact her for the rest of her life.

Let’s band together and give her another experience. An experience that will eclipse and completely offset the ugliness of this event.  Let’s lift her up with love and support and embrace her with so much care that her primary memory of this experience is a demonstration of how much she means to us.
