Hello Everyone,
We are the “DO or DI” Structural Design Team from Highland and Vanier Secondary Schools in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. We are all like minded, want to be, structural engineers that love to have a lot of fun performing theater and developing innovative design structures.
Our Destination Imagination (DI) Team meets every Friday to have fun, explore creativity in structural design, and preform out of the box thinking challenges. Each year our team competes in regional and provincial competitions in the area of structural design.
Our “DO or DI” Structural Design Team is having fun and building innovative design structures. This year, we were challenged to design a balsa wood structure that weighs less than 25 grams and can support significant amounts of weight. Once again, our team came in first place in the Vancouver Island Regional Competition and the BC Provincial Competition.
Our 22 gram balsa wood structure supported 680 pounds of metal plate weights before it exploded. Our nearest competition in the BC Provincial Championships held just over 400 pounds. We are extremely excited and proud of this accomplishment. As first place winners, we are again invited to represent British Columbia at the DI Global Structural Competition in Knoxville, Tennessee in late May 2017.
This 2017 Destination Imagination Global Competition will encompass over 17,000 attendees, representing more than 1400 teams, from more than 15 countries from around the world.
Our “Do or DI” Structural Design Team is extremely excited about going; however, the cost to attend this event is staggering. It costs each team member approximately $2400 to attend this competition.
This is a significant challenge to raise these funds in four weeks; however, we are determined to achieve our goal and represent British Columbia in the DI Global Structural Design Competition. We believe we have the winning design structure that will capture us first place in this global competition.
We are in it to do our best and your financial support will help us make it happen. The less time we spend on our fundraising, the more time we can spend in preparation for this amazing competition.
