Liver Transplant

Donation protected
My husband was diagnosed with UC (Ulcerative Colitis) at age 17 and shortly thereafter the US Army found PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis). About three years ago, he was rushed from Pardee Hospital  to UNC Chapel Hill to have his colon removed due to treatment that was no longer working and a colon that was necrotic and about to give up.  This left him with a colostomy at 47. He was in and out of the hospital after this surgery due to constant “bleeding episodes” that caused his hemoglobin to drop below 7, due to his liver not being able to filter properly. Ever since his surgery in October 2016, we have struggled to keep him healthy, spending time in the hospital almost every month. On October 29, after more than 30 years from diagnosis, we got the call that a new liver was on the way. This was the answer to our prayers. The surgery lasted over 8 hours and after less than 24 hours with the new liver, surgeons had to go back in due to bleeding. We are now 3 weeks post transplant, with a long road ahead. We have had to stay within one hour of the hospital to be able to make weekly appointments and make sure we are close in case there are any further issues. Prior to the surgery, we were in the hospital for two weeks, then another two weeks after the surgery. Now having to stay close another 30 days. During all this time, I have been unable to work, so we are asking for any help you can give. We are not the kind to ask for help, but at this time, we know that we need it. Thank you all for your help and prayers during my husband’s recovery.
