Dexter’s Emergency Medical Needs

On  March 17th, 2018, my 7 year old Dexter experienced his first two seizures. The following two days, he had zero. However, on the 20th, he began experiencing numerous episodes known as ‘cluster seizures’, which can be more dangerous, seeing as how there are more than one in a 24 hour period. I took him to the local emergency vet that night, and followed up with my primary vet the next day. They placed him on an anti-seizure medication called Zonisamide. He was seizure free for exactly 11 weeks. On Wednesday, June 6th, at around 4PM, he had his first episode since March, and again at 10PM. He wasn’t snapping out of this one as well as he had previous ones, so I immediately took him to the Emergency and Trauma center again, where he stayed overnight to be monitored on two consecutive nights.

The local facilities have exhausted all options, with medication and treatment, and suggested I take him to NC State for an MRI and spinal tap, to check for inflammation, brain tumor, or cancer. I elected to do so, because I love him more than life itself.

With all that being said, I’m not the type to ask for help, but this could not have happened at a more at a more inopportune time. I love animals of all types, as I know a lot of you do as well. The MRI for him alone, is going to be anywhere from $3,000-$5,000. That’s not including the time he has already spent at the emergency vet, the medications, the other tests, and potentially treatments for whatever underlying cause this could be.
