On February 2nd, 2016, my daughter Devon lost both her fiance and the father of her daughter, Josehphine June. She loved Will with all of her heart, and together they were just getting started on building a life. On the day this happened, we were indeed going wedding dress shopping. They were to be married in December of this year in a ceremony themed around their most favorite holiday, Christmas.
Josephine (Josie) is just 8 months old.
Devon's father called Tuesday morning and asked she hand the phone to me. He told me, "I need to tell you something, and then I need you to hand the phone to Devon." I have never in my life had such a profound experience. I have never felt so helpless.
What we know is that Will had gone to an interstate by their home to shoot photos with friends early Tuesday morning. While shooting a photo, Will accidentally stepped into traffic and was fatally injured by oncoming vehicles.
We cannot conceive of why such a thing could or would happen. Will was loved by many, and his loss is deeply felt by all.
What we have now is a beautiful and smart young woman, with a beautiful, bright young daughter who need the very best fresh start they can achieve. We know that Will would want this for them as well. Devon currently works from home only part time as she cares for Josie full time. She will be looking to pursue her graduate degree or seek a full time position so she can provide the very best for Miss Josie moving forward.
