Detroit Mercy Law Alumna Portrait

Donation protected
Three student organizations at Detroit Mercy Law—the Black Law Students Association (BLSA), the Women’s Law Caucus, and the Law Review—plan to honor Detroit Mercy Law alumna Judge Denise Langford Morris by donating a portrait of her to the School of Law and by recognizing her in a portrait unveiling ceremony on March 8, 2019, International Women's Day. The portrait unveiling will take place at the conclusion of the 2019 Law Review Symposium titled, Women and the Law. We are thrilled to say that she will be the first woman to be featured in an individual portrait at the School of Law.

Judge Langford Morris has served on the Oakland County Circuit Court since 1992.  She was the first African American elected to the Oakland County Circuit Court.  Previously, she was an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Civil Division, an assistant Oakland County prosecutor, and a trial attorney in private practice specializing in insurance defense and in numerous other areas of law.  She worked for the Michigan Department of Social Services as a protective services worker while attending law school. She earned her law degree from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1982 and is a member of the University’s Board of Trustees.

She also has been a devoted alumna of Detroit Mercy Law and a role model and inspiration for students.  “Judge Langford Morris exemplifies the best of Detroit Mercy Law graduates,” said Phyllis L. Crocker, Dean of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.  “She is a leader in our community who is committed to public service and to mentoring our students and graduates so they, too, become leaders.”

BLSA, the Women’s Law Caucus, and the Law Review are holding several fundraisers to raise the money for the portrait.  Please help us meet our goal!
