Desiree's (Zed) Cancer Journey

As some of you may know, our dear friend, Desiree (Zed) Medina, has been diagnosed with
Thyroid Cancer. As of today, Desiree has undergone two lengthy and grueling surgeries to
remove her thyroid, as well as, her lymph nodes. As a result of complications and difficulties of
her first surgery, Desiree is experiencing sensory issues on the right side of her face, ear, neck,
and back of her head. She continues to experience numbness and loss of feeling due to
damaged nerves. This has even caused shortness of breath and reoccurring anxiety for fear of
loss of breath. The grave circumstances are extremely challenging and will continue to be a tremendous uphill battle for her and her family. In addition, Desiree will have to undergo radioactive iodine treatment following her surgery. This method of treatment is extremely difficult.
Her companion, Raul, is the sole provider for Desiree and their son Dante. These unforeseen
traumatic events are leading to an arduous time for Desiree and her family both physically,
mentally, spiritually and financially.
All that know Desiree understand how special she is and how much impact she has on all the
lives she touches. Her past students see her and beam with excitement to see Ms. Des! I have
been blessed to have her apart of my life and love her so much, there is no one like her! I know
she is strong and will continue to fight for her Dante Dizzle, her baby boy. Please help Desiree
