Desi Rivera’s Medical Crisis

Desi Rivera is in critical condition in Pediactric ICU. He wash rushed via ambulance to Rady Children’s Hospital fighting for his life and each breath and has been intubated, on the ventilator breathing for him since Monday 1/8/18.
His body is still very, very sick, and we are not out of the woods. The doctors, nurses and specialty teams are working hard to figure out answers and how to help his little 3 year old body fight all of this.
They have world renowned infectious disease specialist Dr. John Bradley leading his case and are using the most modern dna testing (Karius Test, next-generation sequencing) to find out more about this form of bacteria found in his blood. (Infections from this particular bacteria are fast moving and can be fatal) The infections are extremely arggressive and they are doing all they can to stay one step ahead but unfortunately they are still struggling to get more information.
He is combating multiple attacks on his body including severe phenomena and influenza A , as well as two separate bacterial infections that have contaminated his blood. They have inserted two chest tubes as well as a PD drain in his abdomen to help his body drain the fluids, along with the ventilator breathing for him and multiple tubes in his nose and down his throat to monitor from the inside, as well as an NJ feeding tube.
We are praying every moment for a miracle and can not wait for all of this to be behind us. We have faith and are staying strong, knowing he will get better.
I would not normally be one to ask for a helping hand but the unfortunate truth is that we will be in over our heads when the medical bills come and a lot of it will not be covered by insurance.
This sweet boy of ours is our whole world and we have a long hard road ahead of us to his healthy recovery. We cannot wait to see him back to doing all of the things he loves with his big beautiful smile on his face! We appreciate each and every prayer and positive thought sent our way. We feel your support and appreciate it more than you will ever know.
