It’s unimaginable for a young boy to lose both parents at the age of 4. This tragically happened to Derek Cheng. At the age of 2, Derek lost his mom, Anna after a short battle with cancer. Anna was a great mother, partner and friend, whose time was cut too short due to cancer. Giving birth to Derek was the happiest moment of her life - from a woman who didn’t think she would ever have a child. She passed in peace knowing that Derek was in great hands with his dad, Kevin.

After Anna’s passing, Derek and his dad persevered in Anna’s memory. Kevin dealt with all the challenges of being a single parent, becoming stronger day by day, as long as they were together. Kevin admirably tried to be both mother and father to Derek. Just as life was returning to normal, less than 2 years later, Derek was faced with another tragedy. His dad, Kevin unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack, leaving Derek an orphan.

In the coming weeks & years, Derek will be faced with hardships. We as, friends & family to Derek’s parents, need your help. Sadly, this unexpected turn of events was not anticipated by Kevin. There were no financial contingency plans. This GofundMe account was started by his Aunt Patricia (Anna’s sister) and his cousin, Elizabeth (Anna’s cousin), with Elizabeth controlling the trust, on behalf of Derek. We are asking for any financial assistance and are overwhelmingly grateful to all donors, in having reached the goal.
