Dental Surgery for Poncho!

Poncho is a sweet, playful and lovable 3 year old pony. He was rescued to be rehabilitated in May 2019. When I got him, he was suffering swelling in his face and was unable to chew any of his food, resulting in significant weight loss. As soon as I got him, he was seen by a vet and dentist. He had retained baby teeth removed and began a course of antibiotics to fight off a sinus infection. With this and the amazing care provided by Legacy Riding Stables, he began gaining weight and his health began to improve. He was happy and had energy and just wanted to play and be loved. But sadly, little improvement with the swelling was made. So off we went to a horse clinic for x-rays. Upon viewing the x-rays, what was initially thought to be a $700 - $1200 problem was much worse. Poncho suffers from misalignment of his teeth, which are causing some of his teeth to grow outwards into his cheeks. I have reached out to some of the top equine hospitals in area, such as New Bolton in Philadelphia, PA and Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists in Long Island, NY but unfortunately the projected cost of the surgery may be upwards of $5,000 and I have not been able to find a vet willing to work out a payment plan.

 

As a recent college grad and having just started graduate school, the finances for such an expensive surgery are just not there for me. I was prepared for vet, farrier, dentist and board bills but $5,000 was unexpected and is hard on most people. So I am reaching out for help to get my pony the surgery he needs. Anyone who knows me knows that my animals are my whole world and I do everything I can to provide them with the best possible care. It is hard for me to make myself so vulnerable and ask for help with his but Poncho does not deserve to suffer due to the insane costs of vet care. And I know I have not had Poncho long but my family loves him more than anything.He is as sweet as can be. He wants nothing but to be loved and groomed. He allows my little brother to hang all over him without batting an eye and loves getting attention from my mom. He is such a big part of our family already and I just want to provide him with the care he deserves.

If more money than required for the surgery  is raised, I will be donating the remainder to various animal welfare organization to help other animals get the help they deserve.
