Denny's Rally Against Cancer

Donation protected
In the fall of 1975 with a record of 6-4, the Mountain View High School Eagles headed to the Central Coast Section football playoffs.  Prepared to fight as they were the underdogs, sophomore quarterback Denny Mateo led the Mountain View High School Eagles in winning the CCS Championship game, 29-16, against Monta Vista High of Cupertino. To this date, it remains Mountain View’s only CCS title.

Since then, Denny has remained the same modest and humble person he always has been. Through the years he has continued his career working at Stanford Hospital and has put his focus on his wife, Yolanda, and three daughters, Danielle, Melissa, and Ashley. He has been able to witness his wife sell her first million dollar home and watch his oldest daughter, Melissa graduate from the University of Phoenix as well as become a grandfather after Melissa gave birth to her two children, Cameron and Camila. Furthermore, Denny has been able to watch his daughter, Ashley, become the sales manager at Woodland Park and had the opportunity to experience his youngest daughter, Danielle, graduate from Chapman University.

Recently over the course of a month, Denny began to experience abdominal pains. For weeks, his doctors insisted that it was indigestion that caused the stomach aches and discomfort. As the days went on, the pains grew stronger and his stomach became distended-- signalling that there was something more happening.

On July 28th, Denny Mateo and his family received news that would change their lives altogether. Just two weeks after his 56th birthday, Denny was diagnosed with Stage 4 Large B Cell Lymphoma. Just as he prepared for the fight against Monta Vista High School in the year of 1975, Denny is stronger than ever and is prepared to fight his battle against cancer.

After receiving the news of Denny’s illness, his wife and caregiver Yolanda has halted working to ensure the treatment and safety of her husband as he endures an intensive Re Poc Chemotherapy treatment. For this reason, financially the Mateo family are in a bit of a bind.

With that being said, there are so many people that are looking to help. We have started this page in hopes of raising money for the family to offset any costs that they may face in this upcoming battle. As he undergoes this journey, Denny continues to follow the motto that led to the CCS Championship, “Ya gotta believe!”
