This is to raise funds to support a visit to Ontario by a delegation from Casale Monferrato, Italy.  Casale Monferrato is a small northern Italian city near Torino which has been very hard hit by asbestos disease, including over 1000 cases of mesothelioma from a population of 36,000.  The delegation will include doctors, an educator, a high school student, two labour activists and representation from the city council.  They will visit Peterborough, Sarnia and Toronto, hosted by the Italian community,  labour movement and asbestos disease activists.  The objective of the visit is to highlight the importance of occupational and environmental disease prevention.  And to share ideas about how communities can respond to occupational disease clusters, eliminate toxic exposures and turn the page to a better future.  There is a special focus on the link between the Italian experience with asbestos and the similar experience by Italian immigrant workers in Ontario from the 1950s to 1980s.  The visit will include meetings between the Italian delegation and Ontario health professionals, educators, community, labour and political leaders and asbestos victims and activists.
