Del deserves great care!

Donation protected
This is Del, and he has had a rough year.

In June, we lost our child care when Del's grandma went back to work. We live in a small community on a peninsula, and we couldn't find summertime care for him on such short notice, so Del had to stay with family out of province over the summer months - exciting at first, but being away from home was so hard on both of us!

During that time, I learned that our community has a dire shortage of childcare. The ministry of children and families and our family development worker and I kept coming up against closed doors... The pressure and Del's absence took its toll on my mental health, and for these reasons and others, I have been on medical leave from work since late August. The financial impact of this is significant. Month after month with no progress has been compacting that struggle.

Some of you know that Del spent the month of October in an immersive 5 week inpatient evaluation at BC Children's Hospital, to be assessed for learning, behavioural, psychological, and neurological disabilities. It has been hard work, but it really shed a lot of light onto what Del needs to be successful and how we can help him overcome the significant barriers that have faced him and school and excluded him from standard daycare options in the past. (This month alone, we were refused from 2 unlicenced family care facilities due to Del's special needs, one of whom advised she would require more than $700 monthly to care for him after school.)

Now we find ourselves in a conundrum, and that's where you come in. I cannot return to work as long as Del has no appropriate child care. To afford childcare, I need to return to work. This week, I found an amazing licenced facility that meets Del's needs that is willing to take him on, and it is even relatively affordable! However, to register, I have to provide first and last month's fee as a deposit, plus a $100 registration fee. The total is nearly as much as my rent. I have been on a reduced income for months and cannot meet that total alone.

I love my son, and he deserves this opportunity to flourish in a positive environment. I can't bear to lose this chance for him because I am unable to produce enough money to enrol him. I am hoping for your support to assist with this cost so we can move forward as a family toward a better, happier life after a year of truly difficult setbacks.

Thank you for reading, and I truly appreciate any help you can offer.
