Deirdre is going to Masters Worlds!

 For the first time in my life I’m an internationally ranked athlete!! 

I compete in Olympic weightlifting as a master athlete (meaning over 35 years old).  In this sport, we do two lifts at a competition — the snatch and the clean and jerk.  Your best lifts in each are combined for your total result and with that you are ranked.  The International Weightlifting Federation ranks all the athletes regardless of sex, weight &  age and the top 700 athletes are invited to compete at Masters Worlds. This year, my total was high enough that I ranked 80th overall and, 1st in my age and weight category.  For someone who’s never competed outside Alberta, I am now going to the World Masters Weightlifting Championships  in Montreal to compete on August 20th.
