Help Declan beat Leukemia

Donation protected

So things have really turned upside down for our family this weekend. On Thursday, our 3 year old son, Declan seemed fine. On Friday, we noticed two small purple bruises--one on his arm and one on his chin, which we attributed to everyday rough-housing with his puppy and older brothers and to just being a typical active 3 year old boy. On Saturday, we noticed more bruises without an obvisious cause. We called the pediatrian, who advised we go to Geisinger ER for evaluation. The blood work showed that Declan's platelet level was extremely low at 7 (normal range 150-450). They admitted him, and he received a platelet transfusion a few hours later. They ran some more blood work and told us Sunday morning that our otherwise healthy, active, energetic 3 year old has Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and would need chemotherapy and more transfusions, perhaps for the next five (or more) years. Tomorrow, he is set to undergo a spinal tap, a pelvis bone marrow biopsy, and surgery to have a central line and medi-port placed. He starts chemo on Wednesday. While we are shy to put a lot of personal information on Facebook or to ask for anything, we would greatly appreciate your prayers and support in this dark hour as our family begins this completely unexpected life-changing journey. Thank you.

The post above is from Declan's mother, Kristy, and it is how most of us found out about this terrible situation that Declan and his family are up against. We are asking for donations to help fight Declan's Leukemia. So far, Declan has been given an 85% prognosis for CURE, not remission. This is a blessing despite the diagnosis, but as we all know, cancer is very unpredictable and the prognosis can change in an instant. The money raised will be wholly  used to help Declan and his family defeat this disease. Declan is just getting started with his chemotherapy, and treatment is expected to last 4-5 years with some of this time spent inpatient and some as an outpatient. Declan's family lives approximately 45 minutes from the treatment center. The family is already beginning to incur expenses associated with treatment and travel, as well as childcare for the other children in the home while the parents accompany Declan to treatment. Any donations, no matter the size, are greatly appreciated, as our family members fight to overcome this. Thank you in advance for anything and everything you are doing to help the Bowers to get through this awful situation.
