Its Team Backpack time again! In 10 years time, Team Backpack has donated over 2000 backpacks directly to needy children and most recently through the Phoenix Suns' Charities and a nonprofit called Playworks. Playworks, helps us to identify children in need and delivers them the backpacks at the start of the school year. The relationship we have built with Walmart allows the donated backpack money to go much further. Walmart pulls almost all of the supplies from their back-to-school sales, giving Team Backpack the lowest sale price and packs them on pallets for us to pick up—thanks to them for their help!
The backpacks are specific to grades K-6 and loaded with everything the student needs (any of you with children in school know how long that list is) and some extras including toothbrush and toothpaste. (see picture-its an actual backpack!) Again this year, I have had several of the schools/organizations I have donated to in the past, contact me telling me the dire need for student backpacks and asking for help again. So... I want to up the ante in 2017, increasing the number of donation backpacks we are now doing, from last year’s 480 to 600.
Will you join the team and help get as many backpacks as possible into the hands of the children who will be the leaders, teachers and parents of tomorrow? We are putting the backpacks together for an early August delivery to Playworks through the Phoenix Suns Charities.
Whether you helped in years past or this is your first time, we are grateful and will do all the work. Playworks is a 501C-3 nonprofit organization and will give you a donation letter for your taxes. (Letters will come from Playworks mid August)
The beginning of the school year is always so exciting and nerve racking for kids. To think they go unprepared or underprepared is heartbreaking. Not only does it impact them educationally and socially, it may also subject them to bullying, limit their ability to learn and become productive members of our society.
Thanks for taking time from your busy day to take a look at this information and hopefully you decide to be a partner with Team Backpack in this worthy cause!
Our need is immediate--the backpacks, even buying in bulk cost, approximately $28 each--so 600 will be $16,800. Any funds raised, not spent on the backpacks will be used to purchase discounted school supplies after the back to school sales and will distributed to teachers to use at their discretion.
We are absolutely beyond grateful for any help given. No one takes any money for anything they do for the drive, no gas or exepenses are reimbursed. Every single penny goes to the kids! These students are our leaders of tomorrow-lets make sure they have the tools necessary to continue to keep our country - the United States of America--Great!
