Debra started to experience a strange smell in her left nostril along with an intense headache. It went on for a few days for the smell but the headache continued. On January 6th her vision changed, both eyes went blurry and would blend together at a point also in one eye it was very bright and the other eye was duller.  She was also experiencing light headedness and dizziness along with the intense headache. By this time she has seen both an optometrist and an ophthalmologist, who reffered her to a neurologist who was unable to see her until January 16th.

On January 10th, her daughter Victoria noticed that the left side of her face was swollen. Debra's left eye was slightly wandering to the left and was hooded. At this point Victoria thought something was seriously wrong and took her mother to the ER at Montrose Memorial. After a brief examination they drew five vials of blood for running test, After that, Debra insisted that an MRI scan be performed due to the never ending headache. She was told they couldnt find anything abnormal with her MRI scan and was sent home with Dramamine.

On Jan. 16th we went to see the neurologist who told Debra and Victoria that she had a stroke in her third cranial nerve. And we reviewed her MRI scan which again we were told everything looked normal. But we stressed the pressure headache on her left side and was told it was due to a polyp in her left nostril and that Debra should see the nose, ear and throat doctor. He also sent us to MMH to draw blood for an  sedimentation test that should of been performed when she was in the ER. but wasn't. After a few days we got the  test results back which was negative. She kept experiencing an extreme pressure headache on her left side. Debra called the nose, ear and throat doctor who reviewed her MRI scan and told her the polyp wasn't anything to worry about and he had no reason to see her, That was Jan. 20th. Victoria told her mom that she would take her to Grand Junction for a second opinion which was that same day, Jan 20th, in the evening. Victoria also said that she would look into seeing why her mom kept experiencing the excruciating headache.

On Jan. 21st Debra was doing her normal office work routine when her boss found her slumped over and unresponsive around 8:30 a.m. He noticed that she vomited bile on the desk and continued to vomit on herself. He tried to call her emergency contacts. Upon her son's arrival, within minutes, they decided to call 911 who took her to MMH. Marcello called his sisters to let them know that their mom was on her way back to the hospital. They all met at MMH and the ER doctor escorated them to a nearby closed off room. They knew it was going to be very bad news. At 9:45 the Dr told them that Debra had hemorrhaged on her left side of her brain. And that they weren't sure why this happened. That her case was an anomaly (which means something that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected). He also stressed that the sooner they took the blood out the better because of pressure on her brain which couldn't be performed at MMH; and that she needed to be flight for life to Grand Junction. The ER Dr stressed the sooner her blood was removed the better for her brain.

Due to the snowy weather on Jan 21st, a helicopter wasn't able to transport her so they sent a hospital jet from Grand Junction.  Debra was transported to the airport. It was supposed to be a 15 minute trip but the trip was 50 minutes.  When they loaded her out of the plane Victoria heard the paramedics say that the round trip was an hour and forty nine minutes.1 p.m Debra was in for surgery.  She was out of surgery by 3:30 p.m. Debra was recovering very well the few first days after her brain hemorrhage. On Jan. 25th the neurosuergeons noticed that Debra had two brain aneurysms located on opposite sides of her brain. Debra needed another surgery due to the fact that she had a brain aneurysm which caused the brain hemorrhage in the first place. She came out of the surgery and is recovering. In a few months she will have another surgery to remove the last aneurysm.

Debra will need the proper care from here on out and will need a lot of rehabilitation.
