We are suspending the campaign and THANK YOU ALL for helping Debra. She passed away today, July 3, 2017 into the waiting arms of her Savior, now pain free.
Please continue to pray for the family and her children.

Blessings to you.

Original story, Oct. 2016...

A diagnosis of CANCER changes your world. Fear, the unknown, illness, surgery, more fear will bring the future crushingly close.
Meet Deb Ellidge. She is working at the YMCA on the maintenance/janitorial staff and is known as a very hard worker who is detail oriented. She'll do anything to help anyone.
She's not a "talker"; she's a "doer". I've seen that in the 2 years she has worked for us. She has a work ethic that shames most people half her age of 57. Deb works outside doing physical work to detail cleaning, organizing, hauling trash and serving the 600 campers and staff each day.  We're in Central Texas, it's HOT!

Last week, Deb found out that the pain she was experiencing was a result of advanced uterine cancer requiring immediate surgery. She came to tell me of her diagnosis and said; "boss, I have cancer and am going to have to miss work for 6 weeks... maybe more." And with tears in her eyes she asked, "how am I going to take care of my kids?"

This is when I found about the circumstances in her life and the depth of her giving spirit. It is fair to say that her upbringing was not ideal and yet she grew up to have a strong sense of family and a loving nature.
12 years ago she volunteered to be the legal guardian of her grandnephew who was 2 months old at the time. His mother (Debs niece) was unable to provide a stable home life due to her lifestyle and drug use.
This happened again 11 years ago and one more time 9 years ago as two more infants entered the world not knowing who their father is.
Deb became a single mother of three to give the kids a loving and stable home life. "We're family, I had too. My brother and sister couldn't do it, I was all they had."

And the rest of the story:
After Church and helping with whatever events and dinners take place at Hill Country Nazarene Church; Deb finds time to be the one of the Coordinators of the Reveal Resource Center Food Pantry by organizing the food on Monday for distribution to those in need on Tuesday.
She has a servant’s heart.
6 months ago she brought her mother into her house to provide the care she required that the assisted living home was not able to provide. Family is important.
A month ago her mom passed away.

"How I am going to take care of my kids?"

Fortunately she has medical insurance through our organization that will pay some of the cost of treatment. However, the money that she put aside for "bills" during the next couple of months was virtually wiped out within a few days by the surgery prep appointment and hospital intake.
I asked how she was going to get by after surgery and during Chemo and recovery.

Her response; "I wanted to cry after I wrote the check, but I am blessed with my Church family and my friends," I agreed that she is in good hands and that the Lord will provide.

My goal is to cover her salary and help with the uncovered medical expenses that she will need to get back on her feet.

Will you help? Deb has given so much. Now it's our turn.
