On 19th May I’m running in the Ultra Trail Australia 100km (UTA100) to raise funds for EDGE Worldwide. EDGE Worldwide is an incredible charity that I have enjoyed watch grow from its inception and have been close friends with it’s founder, Jamie Christopherson, for many years now. The current major project for EDGE Worldwide is the Phum Ou School and Vocational Training Centre in Siem Reap Provence Cambodia which provides free and dynamic education to empower the people of Phum Ou and alleviate themselves from poverty.
I would love for you to help me raise some much needed funds for this cause and make all the hard work worthwhile.
A little about the race itself... The UTA100 is a 100km trail ultra marathon around the Blue Mountains with 4400m of ascent and descent. It is said to be "Australia’s most challenging, stunning and prestigious 100km trail running event." For the past 6 months I’ve been training 6 days a week with weekly km’s regularly exceeding the 100km mark. Initially the task seemed close to impossible but after all the training, a lot of sweat and small amounts of blood I’m actually quite excited for race day and looking forward to hopefully raising some much needed funds for this great charity.

Phum Ou School and Vocational Development Centre provides a free and dynamic education to empower the people of Phum Ou to alleviate themselves from poverty.

Those in this community still live in the shadow of the past. With low literacy rates, 50% under 25yrs of age, an average household income of $2.50 per day & limited access to and understanding of the value of education. Life is challenging & typically reliant solely on subsistence farming. The solution is the delivery of a quality education by well-trained & supported teachers, establishing a strong community connection & providing opportunities for self-empowerment for the entire community.
This school truely is empowering them through education to change their lives and that of their families. Students attend class from 8am through till 8pm in the evening. The education is provided completely free of charge and is supported by donations. The school grew rapidly in the first two years growing from 25 students to 250 Students raging in age from 6 to 35 years of age.
With limited access to a quality education & a traumatic past of genocide inflicted by the Khmer Rouge in the 70's targeting educated individuals, left Cambodia at a challenging crossroad. The limited access to a quality education restricts opportunities for young Cambodian's & their families for a better life. We are empowering communities in need by providing a free & dynamic education that focuses on language, moral, life skill & vocational skill development with a cross curricula focus.
The mission of EDGE (EDucational Growth and Empowerment) Worldwide is to carefully assess, develop and advance educational outcomes to empower communities in need. Harnessing the everlasting power of education, we work with key local community members to determine their needs and address the curricula outcomes required to alleviate poverty.
EDGE Worldwide is a not-for-profit charity certified by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit commission (ACNC) and has been created by experts in the field of social development and education and overseen by board members with legal, social development and accounting expertise. Our founder and chairman is the Founder and CEO of EDventure International, Jamie Christopherson. He has been developing and executing educational and social development projects across 6 continents for more than 15 years, focusing on empowering communities in need through education and gradually creating the scope for social change.
Since 2011, the organisation EDventure International has created numerous not-for-profit projects that it has sustained. With continued growth and success of major projects such as Phum Ou School and Vocational Training Centre which has grown from 25 to 250 students, founder Jamie Christopherson foresaw that it was crucial to create a separate charity to manage these projects moving forward to ensure their sustainable growth. Therefore, EDGE Worldwide (EDucational Growth and Empowerment) was created and now EDventure International has passed full control of these projects to EDGE Worldwide.
We are very proud of the positive impact and progress that has been made by EDGE and look forward to continuing to collaborate and implement similar practices to as many communities in need as possible by harnessing the power of education.
