Dealing with Troy's emergency

Donation protected
Our son, Troy, has serious mental health issues. He has been homeless and bouncing around for a few years now. We try to do what we can for him, but it's been difficult to get him help.

He attempted to commit suicide in October of 2017. He had made his way, somehow, to Alaska. While there, he suffered a break and cut his neck open on both sides, stabbed himself in the chest and stomach, and slashed his wrist so badly that he had to be flown from Alaska to Seattle to have a surgeon repair the tendons, which were completely severed.

As you can imagine, my wife and I travelled up from Oregon to see him as quickly as we could. This entailed using up the last of my PTO at my work - which wouldn't have been as much of an issue, except that I was just leaving to take another (better paying) job, so it meant the PTO was used instead of paid out to me. Travelling is always expensive as well, of course, and even tho we have dear friends we stayed with, there were still additional expenses.

Unfortunately, we have been running on no cash reserves for a while. This has put us in an extremely precarious financial situation at this point, as we have all the bills due, are behind on rent, and are cashed out with only about 2 days of groceries to last until I get my first check from the new job, which is 3 weeks away.

Basically, we need cash to help recoup the unexpected expenses we've incurred. Anything above what we need to get by will be put aside to help Troy with getting into a decent living situation.
