Deaf Mother's Cancer Journey

In November of 2015, Patti showed her dentist a sore in her mouth that simply would not heal. She was referred to a doctor and a biopsy was done.
Shortly after the biopsy, the sore began to grow. When the results came back, the news was a shock.
Stage Four cancer.
Patti and her husband, Ramesh, are deaf. Their journey has been challenging--Ramesh was laid off of work. Patti continued to teach American Sign Language at Columbia College while going through treatment for cancer. They have four children and two little grandchildren. Patti's desire is to watch her grandchildren grow up.
Patti will be starting a new treatment next week. They have incurred over $30,000 in treatment expenses so far and will need another $20,000 for the next course of treatment.
I am one of Patti's friends. We have been in the same book club for over 10 years. There are seven of us--all of us are deaf and we communicate using American Sign Language. It has been hard for Patti to smile as she has great difficulty and pain while moving her jaw but we are blessed to be able to communicate using ASL.
Together, with Patti's four children, we are reaching out to everyone we know (and beyond.) If we can reach 50,000 people and each gave just a dollar, we can provide the support and emotional energy they need to focus on the upcoming treatment.
Patti is positive, upbeat, and strong despite debilating pain and difficulty sleeping. Even if you can't give, please keep prayers going and send her radiant energy!
