***The Hilsman Science & Energy Team has been named 1st Place School of the Year in Georgia and Runner-up for National School of the Year in the 2016 NEED Competition! The delegates are very excited about going to Washington, D.C. to represent Hilsman Middle School, Athens-Clarke County, and the State of Georgia!

Hilsman Middle School is a Title 1 School classified as "Highest Poverty."  There are amazing students on the Science & Energy Team that have put in over 3,000 community service hours at the Food Bank, recycling, and at elementary schools teaching younger students.

Any student at Hilsman, regardless of grade level, can participate in community service activities, such as the Trash Hunger Campaign and the Energy Education Campaign.   The Trash Hunger Campaign is a school-wide program in which team members collect non-traditional items that cannot be recycled locally. These items are sorted and shipped to Terra Cycle.  The earnings are used to Trash Hunger...all of the earnings are donated to hunger relief agencies.  We donate to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and UNICEF.  The team's Energy Education Campaign teaches others in our school and community that conserving energy can help save their own dollars and help the planet, too.  Team members actively educate others through information booths at events in the community, Energy Star information give-aways, and leading games that teach about energy conservation with elementary and preschool children.

All of the campaigns and service projects the team is involved with allow students with no financial resources of their own to give back to the community and help the planet while learning a sense of compassion and civic responsibility.  The students on the team are awarded participation points for their work with our service projects and campaigns.

Donations to this project will help student delegates attend the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project's Youth Awards in Washington, D.C. this summer.  While in DC, the delegates will attend special hands-on learning sessions with science and engineering field-area experts.  They will get the opportunity to visit the Capitol, Pentagon, Smithsonian Museums, and many other historic sites.  They will also interact with like-minded students from all over the United States.  This experience will be energizing, inspiring, and educational for the student delegates.

The student delegates, their parents, and I will be truly grateful for any help you can provide.   Many of the students' families cannot afford opportunities like these for their children without some help.  Sponsorships from donations to this project are awarded to students based on both need and participation points.  Any contribution that you make will help a student at Hilsman Middle School and have a domino effect in our community for others and the planet.  Thank you for your interest in helping Hilsman students on the Science & Energy Team.  Your support and encouragement are appreciated.

Hilsman SET Supporters,

Thank you all for your support of the Hilsman Science & Energy Team. Our 2016 trip to the NEED Youth Awards was incredible!

If you would like to view photos from our trip, please email me and I will share the photo album with you.

The Hilsman SET delegation represented Georgia and Athens exceptionally well in Washington, DC. I can't wait to see what these kids do with the knowledge they gained!

I am closing this campaign. I truly appreciate your support of Hilsman Science & Energy Team delegates. Without your help, the 2016 NEED Youth Awards would not have been possible for any of them. Thank you for making a positive difference!

I am truly grateful,
Audrey

Science & Energy Team Supporters,

Thank you so very much for all of your help and support. The students from Hilsman received their national and state level awards today at a ceremony held in the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C.

This entire experience has been wonderful for all of the students. Tomorrow we will return home to Athens, Georgia. I will also close-out this campaign. The difference between our unmet need and expenses will be split among the families of the delegates.

All of your contributions have helped make a huge difference for the delegates and they will continue to make a positive difference in our community.

Sincerely,
Audrey

Good Morning,
The Hilsman Science & Energy Team departs for Washington, D.C. tomorrow! The entire delegation is very excited about this trip. They are looking forward to representing our school, community, and state in the nation's Capitol.
The GoFundMe will be open for a few more days to accept donations to help the kids with the costs of this trip. We do have some unmet needs for 5 delegates. Your support is appreciated more than you know. The experiences these kids have will make an impact on them that will stay with them far into adulthood. The kids are our future leaders. One of them may become the President or a scientist that invents something great that will solve the world's energy crisis in an eco-friendly way.
If you haven't supported the team yet, please consider helping them now. It will make a huge difference for the delegates themselves and the Hilsman Science & Energy Team's work in the community.

Very Sincerely and Respectfully,
Audrey

Science & Energy Team Supporters:

I have good news to share:
The team has received an invitiation to visit both the Pentagon and the White House while we are in Washington, DC.

This will be an amazing experience for the student delegates and their chaperones.

We depart for Washington, DC next Thursday. If you can help, we would truly appreciate your support. If you know of others that may want to help the delegation, please spread the word.

These students have worked hard and this is a culminating event to celebrate their work and efforts to educate others in our community and state about energy and resource conservation while lending a helping hand to others.

Thank you again for your support and encouragement of the Hilsman Science & Energy Team. The students are excited to represent their community and state in Washington, D.C. next week!

Very Sincerely,
Audrey
