Dawson's Difficult Journey

Donation protected
As many of you know, Dawson took a very bad fall right before Christmas this year. Mom and Dad rushed him to the ER to have him looked at and stitched up and as a precaution the doctor ordered a CT Scan. That Scan revealed a very serious problem that was likely the cause of his fall.

Dawson was diagnosed with Chiari 1 Malformation. Basically, the back compartment of his skull was too small, resulting in crowding of neurological tissues.  The lower part of the cerebellum, called the cerebellar tonsils, was hanging down through the opening at the bottom of his skull, preventing cerebrospinal fluid from flowing freely into his spinal canal.    You can read more about it here: https://csfinfo.org/education/patient-information/chiari-malformation/

Dawson saw his neurosurgeon in Dallas on January 9th and was immediately scheduled for surgery. The family was required to stay in Dallas to go through all the pre-op testing and preparation and didn’t even get to go home before the surgery to prepare for their stay.

Dawson’s journey officially began at 5:30am on Tuesday, January 15th. He was under anesthesia for a total of sixteen hours and the surgery itself took just over fifteen hours. (Longest day ever!) It was a very extensive and difficult surgery and his recovery will be equally difficult and long. Unfortunately, he’s had some serious complications and remains on a Ventilator in the ICU at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.

We are trusting and believing for Dawson’s complete healing.

Darryl told Dawson to hold onto Jesus’ hand as he was being wheeled into surgery and we know he’s doing just that. Dawson and Jesus have a very special relationship—but, of course, Dawson has a very special relationship with everyone he meets. His life and faith are a testimony to all of us.

It is unknown at this point when Dawson will be released and able to leave the hospital. Once he is released to return to Amarillo, Darryl will be having a very serious heart surgery. Mary and Darryl will both be off work for an extended period of time as both Darryl and Dawson recuperate and regain their strength.

Many of you have asked me how you can help/what you can do and I’ve told each of you the same thing—-PRAY.   Your prayers are the most precious gift you can give this family, and the only thing for which they would ever ask. I’m going one step further, though, and asking you to prayerfully consider helping them with this huge and unexpected financial burden.

Many of you have been touched and blessed by the Faith and the Love of this amazing family. They are constantly giving to others, supporting and loving people with a generosity and kindness that’s not often seen in this world. Please take this chance to support Darryl, Mary and Tamara as they take this journey with Dawson—your gift of any amount will allow them to focus all their thoughts and energy on walking this path with him.
