Medical Costs-David Refuses to Die

Donation protected
Hello friends!

This fundraising campaign has been started by friends of David Patient, who want to return the generosity that he has shared - with a reach that has rippled to tens of thousands of people (and maybe more!) in the world.

One of the world's longest living survivors of HIV is a hero. Is a friend. Is in need of a hand. For the cost of a bucket of chicken in South Africa, two grande lattes in the US and perhaps not even a fast food meal in the UK, you can create a ripple that will return back to David & Neil.  If you've benefitted from their humor, time, experiences, wisdom and love, we ask that you make a donation to help them out.

Here is Amanda's story:

When asked who I look up to the most in life, the answer is David Patient and Neil Orr.

I met David and Neil when I was serving in the US Peace Corps in South Africa. Overwhelmed with Peace Corps training, I still found myself searching for someone who had more of the answers on how to really empower people to transcend their circumstances and truly improve their quality of life. When I met David and Neil, I knew I’d found my new teachers! They took me under their wing, and not only empowered me to make a positive impact in the world, over the past two decades, they’ve empowered hundreds of people to do the same – often asking for nothing in return.

When I first met David, he said, “AIDS has been my greatest teacher.” I knew in that statement that I had met my new mentor – someone who looks for the chance to translate challenge into learning, and selflessly share that knowledge with the world – just in the interest of improving the lives of others. Neil is equally incredible…

In the past 15 years, David and Neil have donated 40% of their time doing outreach in rural communities. Donated their time… and happily using their own financial resources to improve the lives of others. They’ve given away millions of copies of their books, and have led HIV advice forums – donating time and information to over 45,000 members.

I got to see David and Neil in action as a member of the Acornhoek Leadership Forum in 2014. The two ran a five year program on developing natural leadership in the impoverished communities of Acornhoek, training approximately 120 people. When I showed up at the forum in 2014, I got to see some of the fruits of their labor when I met some of the members from the previous year.

I’ll never forget meeting Trigive. He was a member of the 2013 forum, and using David and Neil’s teachings, the power of thought, and the belief in himself, he was able to transform his starving community into a thriving community – meeting their needs for food security and generating income.

As many of you may know, David has spent the majority of his time in the hospital over the past two years. This has caused great financial strain on both David and Neil… after dedicating their lives to improving the lives of others, it’s now our turn to rally in support of them, and help them through these trying times. No donation is too small or too large.

Thank you so much for your help!

***David is ever so aware of his position and responsibilities as an HIV educator.  He has written a couple of articles stressing that his 14+ recent hospitalizations are due to an illness that is not related to HIV.  For more information, please read these informative articles:
