David's DREAM Cello!

Donation protected

Hello friends,

My name is David Caplan, and I am currently a junior at the University of Illinois, working towards a bachelors in cello performance. Those who know me know that music has been at the forefront of my life ever since I began taking cello lessons in the seventh grade. Music has always given me an outlet to bring out all of my emotions and expressivity and share it with as many people as possible. I can’t even begin to express how much I have seen music affect people in my own life. From bringing a woman to tears at a farmers market with the Canon in D by Pachelbel, to inspiring young children to take up an instrument, to playing in a hospice center for someone at the end of their life who appreciated and loved dearly classical music, I will never forget every single one of these moments in which I was so fortunate enough to touch someone’s heart. I feel so lucky to have such a beautiful job in life! I am also so thankful to all of the people who have given me so very much to help me along the way; all of my teachers, conductors, supportive friends, foundations, but especially my parents, who have constantly bent over backwards to help me grow and have the tools I need to succeed.
I recently tried an instrument at my local violin shop that I immediately fell in absolute love with, and I realized after playing on it for some time that this was an instrument that could carry me for the rest of my life. No matter the task, I think this cello is up to it and will prevail. It is powerful, yet extremely sensitive and giving, and fits my musical soul like hand and glove. It projects SO WELL and is so easy to play on, it is just a dream instrument all the way around! I do not believe in love at first sight, but this seems to be the case with this cello, and I believe it more and more as I continue to play it and realize its’ full potential! My excitement for this cello and how much it helps me play is overwhelming, and I am absolutely head over heels for it!! To get a cello of this proessional level, I am $8500 short after exhausting my loan options and trading in my current instrument. Professional instruments are a small fortune, and including loans and my current instrument I can only come up with about $28,500. This instrument would run me back about $37,000. This leaves about $8,500 that I am left to come up with.  I am not sure how I am going to do it, but I will do anything to try and keep this cello, and that is why I am asking for your help! Any amount would REALLY be appreciated, and I would be forever indebted and forever grateful for your support. Thank you so much for reading my story, and I hope you have a wonderful day! Below are a couple links of old performances of mine for those who maybe aren’t familiar with me or what I do. THANK YOU
