Would you like to help 20,000 children a year access swimming facilities?
I am the CEO of a charity called Blackwell Adventure, we exist to help young people grow and thrive through access to adventurous activities and residential experiences.
Every year over 25,000 young people visit our adventure centre in Bromsgrove. Over half of these young people belong to charities or youth organisations and the rest visit with their schools as part of their curriculum. We use all the funds raised through these visits to maintain our two 50 acre sites and try to reinvest any surplus improving our facilities.
We recently looked into improving our swimming pool (which actually costs us more money to run than it makes) by installing a large Perspex pool enclosure to make the pool weather proof and upgrade the swimming pool heating system to be more effcient.
We currently only open the pool when the weather is warm (so just for a couple of months in the summer) which limits how many young people can access this great facility and prevents our local schools from using this great facility to teach their young people to swim.
We were quoted £120,000 to cover the pool and improve our heating system so that we could use the pool all year round, opening it up for local schools and community groups, running organised swimming lessons as well as including it as part of our wider activity programme.
This large amount of money is far beyond what we as a charity could afford, even spread over a long time frame so this project will likely never be able to be funded by ourselves, so we are asking you, the public to help us. Any donation will help make an impact and bring us one step closer to our goal.
