David's Broken Femur

Donation protected
Our good friend David Wade got in an unfortunate freak accident learning to wake surf. While trying to stand up on the wake surf board, David somehow shattered his femur in three places. After falling, his leg went limp and looked like gelatin. David’s friends lifted him onto the back of the boat and held his leg in place, drove him to shore and waited until paramedics arrived. David was rushed in an ambulance from American Lake to St. Clare Hospital, where St. Clare transferred him to Harborview Medical Center. Wake surfing is considered a safe, healthy sport, and we don’t have answers to how David got as injured as he did other than it being bizarre, unlucky and extremely unfair. No drugs or alcohol played a part in his unfortunate accident.

David will need multiple surgeries to repair his shattered leg, which includes hammering a steel rod into his leg to stabilize it. He has already spent three days in the hospital, and is expected to go home Friday, July 27, 2018. He will need months of physical therapy. Luckily, David is a very athletic, healthy young man, and we are expecting him to make a full recovery and be walking again in the next six months. Medical bills can be financially devastating to a person, and we need David to focus on his health and recovery rather than stressing over heavy medical bills. We do not have a full cost of what his bills will be, but know it will at least be $50,000.
