David Schonberger: Interlochen 2019

David has been accepted as a boarding student for the Class of 2019 at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. After a very generous grant, the remaining tuition and fees for the 2017-2018 school year are estimated at $21,077. His educaton at Interlochen will pave his future success as a bass trombone player. At age 16, he has already accomplished what most young music students hope to do before they graduate from high school and has already embarked on life changing experiences. David is a sophomore at Coronado High School in El Paso, Texas. He has been a member of the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestras (EPSYOs) since age 11. The highlights of his accomplishments are as follows: During his freshman year of high school, he ranked first chair at TMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble 1, participated in NMSU Southwest International Honor Band, was a winner of the EPSYOs Concerto Competition, received the highly coveted title Outstanding Soloist at Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competition, participated in the inaugural season of Carnegie Hall's NYO2 program in the summer of 2016, and received recognition from U.S. Representative Beto O'Rourke for his accomplishments. This year, David Schonberger secured the only bass trombone seat at TMEA All-State Symphony Orchestra and also at Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA). This summer he will perform at Carnegie Hall and tour Latin America in Mexico City, Quito, Ecuador and Bogota, Colombia with NYO-USA. David studies under the private instruction of Mr. John Feeny of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra.
David has played in side by side collaborations with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and recently in an international event with the Orquesta Sonfónica Esperanza Azteca Ciudad Juárez.
