Dave Red's medical fund


Dear Friends,

We are reaching out for help after receiving the devastating news that Dave was diagnosed with a large and fast-growing Glioblastoma brain tumor. He went to the emergency room just after the new year after experiencing some pain and confusion and following a biopsy at Maui Memorial, it was determined that he had only a few days to live unless he was rapidly operated upon to remove the tumor. He was immediately flown back to California to enter more appropriate medical facilities.

On January 11th, Dave underwent surgery to remove as much of the tumor as it was possible to remove, after which, he spent two weeks in ICU and hospital room recovery. 

Sadly, glioblastoma tumors are eventually fatal but successful surgery and follow-up treatments are able to significantly prolong a patient's life and potentially offer them a period of return to normal function. 

All significant brain tumors apply pressure on the brain which causes a variety of both temporary and potentially permanent perceptual and cognitive difficulties. Given the appropriate recovery, rehabilitation, and treatment programs, however, Dave has a chance to extend his life.

He has made remarkable progress over the last couple of weeks but he will now need to enter a program of radiation and chemotherapy to buy him extra time going forward.

Unfortunately, like many others, Dave did not have medical insurance and he will not be able to hold employment for the foreseeable future as he concentrates on getting treatment and therapy and works to overcome the difficulties associated with brain cancer.

He is currently residing with a gracious friend. Anyone who knows Dave understands how dispiriting it is for him to not be able to be outside in nature and doing the adventure, climbing, and canyoneering work that he loves so very much.  (View some of his adventures here: https://youtu.be/JKaFtxYzcc8 )

He's working hard to get back to these activities but could really use a helping hand from anyone who could find it in their heart to assist with some of the associated expenses.

Donations of any size would be used to cover medical expenses (including the typical treatments, therapies, caretakers, medications, etc.) and the concurrent living and transportation expenses.
