Darren's Route

Darren's Route was started as an avenue for us to raise funds for my brother-in-law, Darren Richey. As many of you know Darren was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease, Evan's Syndrome in March 2017. Evan's Syndrome is an auto-immune disease that causes low platelets, among many other symptoms, however, low platelets can be life threatening because of the risk of bleeding. Since first being diagnosed, Darren has faced many different treatments, numerous hospital admissions, along with platelet and blood transfusions too many to count. Unfortunately, every effort to put this terrible disease in remission has failed and the last option is a Stem Cell Transplant. Darren is scheduled to receive his stem cell transplant at Methodist Hospital Houston. He will be admitted to the hospital on June 8th to begin the process of preparing for stem cell transplant and then will receive the stem
Cell transplant on June 14th if all goes well.

Darren will be in the hospital for 4-5 weeks for his transplant. Once discharged, he will have to remain in Houston in close proximity to the
hospital for the next 6 weeks.

Darren is a life long resident of Mid County and has been a UPS driver for the last 29 years. Many of you have met and gotten to know Darren while on his UPS ROUTE. Darren's ROUTE has changed drastically since his initial diagnosis from being on his UPS ROUTE to his Route to Stem Cell Transplant.
