Darren Baumgartner needs your help

Can you imagine if you woke up tomorrow and could no longer move, work, speak, eat or even breath on your own? Can you imagine watching a loved one or a friend go through this? We take so much for granted until it is gone and that's why we need your help.

On March 8, 2018 Darren's life changed forever. He went from shoveling snow two days earlier to paralyzed from the shoulders down by what doctors diagnosed as Guillain Barre Syndrome, also commonly called French Polio. This is a rare and serious autoimmune disorder. Darren's immune system is attacking his nervous system. Darren has been hospitalized since March 8th. He is currently paralyzed from the shoulders down, can not speak or swallow, and is on a respirator to assist his breathing.

Treatment for Guillain Barre is expensive and lengthy with around the clock care to meet the needs of this medical condition. The recovery period is very slow and may take a year or more. Because of this prognosis, Darren's beloved business, Sweeney Cleaners, has gone to new ownership. Darren has been a part of this business from a very young age when his parents owned it. Darren took over the business when his dad died of cancer. One does not expect to have your lifelong livelihood and health taken away in such a rapid manner. The following photo was taken when the newspaper "The Forum" did a feature story on Darren at Sweeney Cleaners.
Darren's wife, Janet, has been trying to continue to work full time in order to cover medical expenses with only her income. She spends time with Darren every day and is keeping up with their daily lives. Medical expenses are mounting with no quick recovery on the horizon. Until you experience it, one can not imagine how quickly a life can change in a day.
Darren has served in civic and community positions and is the first to step up and help out when there is a need. Darren has been an active member in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Optimists Club and the El Zagal Shriners Mobil Nobles for many years and has helped raise immeasurable amounts of money to help children in need of medical care. We know Darren will literally get back on his feet and continue to pay it forward as he has done for many years.
Darren has a servant heart and is always helping others but now he needs our help. Please prayerfully consider making a special gift at this time. Your partnership of any gift amount makes it possible to help offset medical expenses. Together, we can give hope and encouragement to Darren as he has done the same for so many over the years.

Please share Darren's Go Fund Me page with your network of friends. Together we can make a difference.

All funds collected on this site will go directly into an account only accessible by Darren and Janet.

Thank you for your help and join us as we pray for Darren's recovery and his family.
