                                           JAMBO!
As some of you may know I am Maggie Jasper! I have been volunteering in Tanzania at Daraja Mbili Health Center for about two and a half weeks. I have worked with some of the strongest nurses and doctors who have taught me so many valuable lessons. This journey has taught me so much about appreciation and these employees truly make the quote, "The happiest people don't have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything", so amazingly real. However I am hoping that though it is difficult to explain the conditions that this center is in, people will be willing to give to these amazing people doing all that they can for their community to keep them healthy.
I have never been more humbled in realizing how blessed we are in the states to have access to safe, sanitary, effective, necessary, and reliable health care. Here gloves, gauze, and cotton balls are used sparingly. Needles are in such short supply that a patient may be stuck multiple times with the same needle in order to save equipment/medication. Pain medication is not used for women in labor, wound debridement or other painful processes that we are so easily provided when necessary. Stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs are in minimal supply. Because of the scarce amount of supplies, equipment, and medication this health center can not always give the care that they hope to provide!

With help from the staff I have created a rough list of items I would love to buy with your help: a fetal Doppler monitor (they would then have two, one purchased from a previous volunteer!), stethoscopes, watches (for timing contractions/ IV push medications), gloves, gauze, cotton balls, medications, hand sanitizer, laboratory equipment and other miscellaneous medical supplies . I have not gone to the pharmacy to price out what is needed but whatever is raised I will buy things based on priority for the hospital and if I raise more than my goal I will hopefully stock them up with more supplies than hoped!I only have about two weeks to raise the funds so please take that in consideration when thinking of donating!!!Some information about the location: Daraja II (Daraja mbili) health center is a small facility serving a local community in Arusha, Tanzania. The health center mainly supports pre- and post-natal care, delivery, vaccinations, and wound care, as well as managing local medical emergencies. Resources within the health center are limited, as are basic medical supplies and medications.

I will be meeting with Dr. David on Monday to discuss pricing and specifics about equipment needs. I am so grateful for this opportunity to give back and hope that you all are willing to spare even a few dollars to improve the quality of life for this community.

I have become very close with these nurses and can not repay them for what they have done for me and hope that this new equipment would provide a small thank you for their love, acceptance, and kindness!

Thank you for taking time out to read this and please consider sharing this to anyone and everyone. A little goes a long way! Asante sana (Thank you so much)!
