Danny Irizarry was the victim of a violent crime on December 26th, 2016. Early that morning, Danny was seriously injured by an attacker who stabbed him 17 times and left him for dead. He managed to escape his attacker by climbing down eight flights of stairs and was found barely conscious in the lobby of his building. Having lost 50% of his blood, Danny flat-lined twice but miraculously survived his traumatic injuries by the grace of God; he owes his life to the talented first responders, surgeons, and nurses at Bellevue Hospital.

During the first three days of his stay, it was unclear as to whether or not Danny, a lifelong diabetic already fighting pancreatic disease, would be strong enough to survive the many complex wounds he received in the attack. Some of the challenges Danny has faced since being in the hospital include learning how to breathe, swallow and walk again. It goes without saying that the wounds Danny suffered were life-altering.

We’re so grateful to everyone who prayed for Danny and assisted him in some way to come as far as he has.  Since being discharged from the hospital, Danny’s recouperation has been a challenging one. Aside from the injuries he sustained from the crime commited against him, Danny also suffers with memory issues and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. He struggles with eating, speaking, vision problems, which will require additional surgery, and he does not have full use of his left leg. Although there is much more work ahead of him, Danny has maintained a positive attitude and works each day to build strength and muscle tone in the damaged areas of his body. It takes great effort and time for Danny to accomplish small daily activities-- things that you and I take for granted-- but he is determined to make a fully recovery, no matter how long it takes.

Danny has filed for disability and is still waiting to be approved. In the meantime, he has been unable to return to his job as a videographer and video editer, and is unfortunately facing eviction. His insurance is limited for the services his injuries require and he has exhausted his savings in order to pay out of pocket for physical therapy and other rehabilitation services.

If you know Danny, you know that he is a gifted photographer and vocalist, with a strong interest in martial arts. If you know him, you most likely also know him to be a strong man with a great deal of charisma and humor. We’re asking for financial help for Danny while he gets back on his feet and continues to recover from the vicious attack. We want to keep a roof over his head and food on his table and boost his spirit in whatever way we can. Any amount of money would help whether it’s five dollars or one hundred dollars; this money will help someone who demonstrated incredible strength and will to overcome a horrific tragedy, feel a little more normal again. Please keep Danny in your prayers. His family credits much of his recovery to the kind members of the community who have consistently kept him in prayer.
