2018 Journey to South Africa

I've decided to join a team of Emory University students, faculty and staff on a journey to South Africa this year, but I'll need your help getting there!
What
The Emory “Journeys of Reconciliation ” program is an educational and cross-cultural experience that explores the root causes of conflict and forces for peace.
Your donation will go towards:
- roundtrip airfare
- overnight accommodations
- ground transportation
- driver and guide tips
- site admission fees
- three meals per day
We will travel to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Alexandra, Soweta and Cape Town to meet local leaders and learn about their work on issues such as race, health care, public health, transitional justice, activism, memorials and the arts.

Why
What I love about this program is its affirmation that “barriers of race, religion, nationality, gender and class can and ought to be overcome.” I believe traveling with this purpose will be transformative for me, my work as a journalist and my community.
I commit to sharing all that I learn with you by blogging during and after my trip at www.danielledouez.com/blog.
I commit to finding ways to use all that I learn when I return to improve the quality and depth of my reporting on issues such as race, class, inequality, violence, memorials and justice.
I commit to seeking ways to use what I learned to promote peace and healing in my community.
