My name is Danielle and I have been on hormone replacement therapy since May 1, 2016. I started laser hair removal in mid-February 2015 and did 12 sessions over the next year. My last session came at the end of January 2017.
Unfortunately for me, laser hair removal is not the complete answer to getting rid of facial hair and it takes hours of electrolysis to completely get rid of hairs. The white hairs on my face, mostly in the chin area, can only be removed my electro and it doesn't matter how many times I shave in the morning--they are back in the late afternoon, forcing me to shave my face for a second time in a day.
As many of my friends know, I have been unemployed since just before the Jewish holidays this past October. While I've been able to get by on unemployment, food stamps, and generous donations of movie gift cards, ticket vouchers, and the anonymous donor who sent me a Second City gift card, I am not in a position to charge weekly or bi-weekly sessions of electrolysis because sessions run from $35 for 15 minutes up to $100 for a full hour. This doubles should I have two electrologists working on my face at the same time.
While some hairs might never grow back after completing laser, I have started to see a solid amount of regrowth and it's not fun. It's very dysphoric and plays a role in whether or not I feel up to leaving my apartment that day, even with shaving. On Shabbas and Jewish holidays, I have to shave at least two to three times a day. If I don't, it's dysphoria galore and trust me, it's not pleasant to be reclusive but that's what can happen in my case.
Just like many insurance plans, mine does not cover hair removal so all fees have to be paid out of pocket.
I will change the amount I need as soon as I get a better idea but I figure I'll need at least 50 hours of electrolysis to start feeling better about my face when I look in the mirror.
