Dancing My Way To Africa

Dear Community:

My name is Maleeka Harris and  I need your help to raise funds to support my goal of participating in a group trip to Nigeria for a immersive cultural, spiritual and business opportunity. I've always wanted to go to Africa to see the continent where my first ancestors came from. As a young  African American women this unique trip offers opportunities for an abundance of new experiences, education, healing, learn and perform with Nigerian Artists and inspiration for innovations upon returning to America.


I am a dancer, teaching artist and for the past 3 years I have been volunteering my time to help out with events and workshops that help uplift the community through art, music, dance, culture and business empowerment programs. I am passionate about this type of volunteering because it connects people to cultural enrichment, exposure and understanding the necessary tools to help them take a step forward. After all music, dance and art are  the keys to healing the soul.



Along my journey of  being a volunteer I have constantly been exposed to great  mentorship and I am very grateful for my mentor Joyce Adewumi because she helps me  to realize the importance of playing a positive role in the community. She teaches me that its not what you do  but the essence of how you make people feel and to make everywhere you go better than you found it. I think it’s a very good deed to do good things for the community because you never know how much a person can appreciate the help and change their circumstances for the better.

 Can  you help me get to Africa so that upon my return I can further enhance my community efforts and as Ms. Adewumi always say, "make everywhere I go better than I found it"?

Quick facts:
Total cost for Trip: 3,550 USD.
Includes flight from the US to Nigeria, all hotels in Nigeria, local transportation including travel by air and road, spirituals consultation and itinerary booklet which contains important information about Nigeria.

My  goal is  to raise  $2,550 before or  by fee due dates of  July 5th(1/2 payment) and July 30th(final payment) in order to confirm a spot for the August trip.
