Dana's fight against breast cancer

$7,735 of $10,000 goal

This is my sister, Dana. She's 31 years old. It was January 3rd when she felt a lump on her right breast. Our minds immediately filled with worry after going through the trauma of losing our mother from breast cancer in 2012. She consulted a doctor shortly after and went through a bilateral sonomammography. The findings state that the lump has a moderate suspicion for malignancy. On February 23, my sister told me biopsy results confirmed that the lump tested positive for cancer (duct carcinoma).

My sister is the most selfless, caring and kind hearted person I know. She goes to bible studies every monday night and uses her vacation time to do dental missions. She has devoted her time in taking care of our father for almost a year after he suffered from a stroke two years ago. But being the positive person that she is, she never complained about her situation and believes that this is only the start of her long journey of faith and healing. She hopes to be here with her family while she goes through surgery and possibly further treatment. We hope that you support us through this difficult time. Your prayers and generosity will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Everyone! I am Dana Francisco. Finally I have the courage to write to you all and update you on what's going on. But first, I would like to THANK YOU again for your generosity. We will not be able to go this far if it wasn't for your kind hearts, my sister's wisdom and persistence and of course the one that created us all... God. We are very grateful for all your help and prayers. All of you has been a motivation to look forward to completing these treatments and be victorious in this endeavor. Again, our hearts are filled with positivity and grace because of all of you. Thank you!

Now for updates!

I am at my 4th chemo on Aug. 8th, with Dr. Lauren Carcas from Florida Cancer Care (thanks to you!). At this very moment my hair is thinning and food taste like metal. Other days would be: gaining and losing weight every week, taking Iron and folic acid (for RBC because I'm starting to be anemic because of chemo), Biotin (for neuropathy), WBC shot (boost my immune system), struggling with my appetite (so picky with food, I just don't feel like eating or then I binge). I will be done with my chemotherapy by September and hopefully will start surgery on October; as soon as we'll be able to find Breast Surgeon, Radio-oncologist and a Plastic Surgeon. The ideal treatment plan of Dr. Carcas is one year. We are praying that everything will workout with the insurance and everything else.

After all these things that are happening, I still feel very lucky to have such kind hearted people around me. I have my family to support me in every way. I have never been so peaceful in my life. Thank you everyone for being an inspiration. You give me courage to fight and live for one more day... not even... as long as God permits me.

Thank you again and may God bless you all. ❤️

Hello everyone!

To all of the wonderful people who expressed their positive thoughts, kept us in their prayers, shared this post and most importantly, made a donation/s, THANK YOU. Because of you, we were able to complete all the necessary tests to come up with the best possible treatment for my sister in a span of two weeks. We met with her oncologist today for our second consultation. My sister has stage 3 cancer. The doctor recommends a double mastectomy. The MRI result says that her tumor is attached to her pectoral muscle, they would need to do chemotherapy first to shrink it before the surgery. The good thing is the cancer cells haven't spread through her lymph nodes. Her biopsy shows that the cancer cells thriving on estrogen and are positive for HER2 hormone so she would need to do radiation and hormonal treatment after surgery to prevent it from coming back. The chemotherapy would take 18 weeks, and the surgery will take place three weeks after that. The good news is that after all these treatments, there is a huge chance that the cancer could be completely gone. She is going to pursue treatment here in the states to be closer to and be well taken care of by our family. So again, we humbly ask everyone for your generosity. Please donate or share this page so we can reach our goal. Thank you and please keep her in your prayers.

Hello everyone!

As we have mentioned from our previous update post, today was our first appointment with the oncologist. The doctor seemed optimistic with my sister's situation saying that she believes that she may be in the early stage of cancer and that the lump doesn't seem like it is growing rapidly. But time is of the esssence considering it has been 3 months since the lump was discovered.

But before they can move forward with the treatment/surgery, she recommends getting an MRI, genetic testing, bilateral mammogram and another biopsy. Hopefully, we can schedule all these tests in the next week or so. We will be updating you then after our next appointment. Please keep praying for my sister. Thank you again for all your help!
