Daimon Diggs' Fight Against Multiple Myeloma

Donation protected
“Your husband has only 9 months to live.”  Those words rang loud back in 2011 for Gina Diggs and their four children who were 18, 5, 3, and just 18 months at that time.  However, after a successful 30-month battle with Multiple Myeloma that included several rounds of chemo and two bone marrow transplants, Christmas Days spent in ICU, and many long nights in prayer, Daimon Diggs successfully enjoyed five additional years of family life with the Myeloma under control.

Bitter-sweet because Daimon’s condition is considered incurable and terminal, the diagnosis resulted in their insurance coverage being reduced and forcing Daimon into the Medicare system.  Medicare slashed their insurance coverage and the family must now cover 20% more of the medical expenses. This created unforeseen financial burdens on the family of six as they prepare for another brutal battle against cancer.

In January 2018 the family was told that the rare blood cancer had returned with a vengeance in the form of Single Plasmacytoma Tumor eating away on Daimon’s L1 vertebrae and spinal canal.  To fight the cancer’s return Daimon has already endured nine weeks of radiation therapy, a five-hour long open-back surgery to remove a cancerous mass from his spinal column, and he began chemotherapy sessions twice a week with no ending date in sight.   While Daimon loves coaching and helping others, he is currently grounded on the couch dealing with extreme pain and the side effects of chemotherapy.

After recently having his unique case reviewed and accepted for treatment at Emory Winship Myeloma Specialty Center in Atlanta, Daimon’s local medical team recommended the family move to Atlanta for care, as the Center is recognized as the best in the world for treating aggressive relapse myeloma cases.  The Diggs Family must relocate from Virginia, leaving Gina’s aging parents and support system behind to give Daimon the best chance at defeating cancer again.  He longs to see their four children complete their studies, begin their careers, and start families of their own.

In addition to the physical and emotional costs, Daimon’s disease has burdened their family with overwhelming expenses.  Daimon’s current chemotherapy treatment is well over $30,000 each month.  Recognizing the exorbitant costs and challenges that lie ahead, the Diggs family gave permission for Gina’s co-workers to set up a GoFundMe campaign on their behalf.  Every donation will be used in directly relieving the financial burdens of relocating the family to Atlanta and providing for Daimon to receive the life extending medical treatment he desperately needs to win this battle.

The Diggs family is extremely thankful for the time they have shared together over the past seven years after hearing the doctor’s initial prognosis.  The family is heavily involved in their local church, charity events, and are known for their generous spirit of love.  In addition to caring for the needs of her husband and children, Gina continues to work full-time, leading a corporate market team.

In addition to being a family man, Daimon Diggs served his country honorably as a Soldier in the US Army, and later as a civil service employee of the US Navy and US Air Force.  He recognizes the importance of never going into battle alone and the importance of having a strong support team.

Even a small donation will be appreciated.  Daimon, Gina and their children need to know we are standing alongside them as he fights for his life while they walk together through this current battle.  Even if you are unable to donate, please consider sharing and promoting this campaign on your personal social media sites.

Would you consider making a donation or sharing the campaign with others in memory or honor of a family member, loved one, or friend who has fought a similar battle?

The low 2.9% fee charged for all GoFundMe donations are designed to cover the credit and debit card transaction fees.  For those that prefer to donate by check or desire to send a card or letter of encouragement, they may be addressed to Gina Diggs and mailed to their new address near Atlanta:  95 Little Barley Lane, Grayson GA 30017.

And finally, in whatever version of prayer you practice, please hold Daimon, Gina and their children in your hearts over the coming days, weeks and months.  On behalf of Daimon and Gina’s family and her co-workers, THANK YOU!
