Medical Procedure for Daegan
Daegan has a diagnosis of PANDAS (pediatric auto-immune disorder associated with streptococcus), a rare condition that causes an infection in the brain. There are few doctors that understand how to treat PANDAS. We have had to go out of state to find a doctor that knows how to treat PANDAS. We have had him on a regiment of antibiotics, probiotics, and a steroid boost for over a year.
We were able to get him an IVIG (Intravenous immunoglobulin) treatment. This treatment is introduced into the body through an IV. It is about one liter of hemoglobulin (part of plasma) that comes from a thousand donors.
We already spend $10,000 to $15,000 a year for medical costs and with this new treatment we will be even more strapped.
This procedure costs in excess of $5000. Plus the specialist visits are $250 a visit, which is rounded off by multiple blood tests to monitor how his body reacts to the treatment. One set of labs was 19 vials of blood.
We are looking at possibly needing multiple treatments a year.
