Dad Donates Kidney to Daughter

My name is Ken Wingate. I live in Virginia. My daughter, Elizabeth, was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy her second year in college and began dialysis in July 2016. Elizabeth lives in the state of Washington where her husband is stationed at the Bangor Naval Base.
After many tests locally and an evaluation trip to the University of Washington Medical Center, it has been determined I am compatible and healthy enough at 58 years old to donate a kidney to Elizabeth. The transplant surgery will take place September 27, 2017.
Because I must travel across country for the living donor surgery and transplant, the expenses are far more than if Elizabeth were close by. Though her medical insurance will cover the majority of the medical bills, there are expenses that it does not cover. These expenses include Elizabeth’s stay at “The Transplant House” (she lives over an hour away from UWMC, so they want her closer) during her two month healing period, my stay at a local hotel during my twenty day healing period, plane tickets, car rental, and other expenses incurred. The total for these costs is $15,000.00.
The Living Donor Assistance Fund is providing us with as much as they are allowed for our surgery trip. That will be $3800.00. They were gracious in supplying $1800.00 for my evaluation trip.
This brings the total we need to raise down to $11,200.00. Please give what you can and share our page with your friends. We appreciate your kindness. WE WILL KEEP THE CAMPAIGN UP OVER THE COMING WEEKS IN ORDER TO PROVIDE UPDATES ON THE PROGRESS OF THE TRANSPLANT. WE WILL CLOSE THE CAMPAIGN ONCE ELIZABETH HAS BEEN GIVEN A GREEN LIGHT OF RECOVERY. YOU CAN STILL GIVE DURING THIS TIME IF YOU SO CHOOSE.
