DaBeau's surgery

Donation protected
DaBeau was a rescue dog that I took until finding a new home.  Since I work with rescue groups I felt that I could probably find him a home.  Because he is a Pit Bull mix I was really scared for him that he might end up in a bad situation.  I ended up keeping him and he has been a joy.  He's funny, silly, annoying, hard-headed and a love.  I feel very safe with him here when I am alone.

A couple of weeks ago when I got home from work he acted normal.  Within an hour I notice that something was wrong.  He was very lethargic and acted like he couldn't move.  I immediately took him to MedVet.  After questioning me about anything that could have happened such as rat poisoning, the vet said that it could be a tumor.  They found that he had fluid in his abdomen and when extracted some out found that it was blood.  He said that the tumor probably broke open and is now bleeding.  He said it could be hemangiosarcoma which is a fast growing and aggressive type of cancer which really scared me.  I just didn't know what to do.  I couldn't do nothing.

They thought that he would need emergency surgery that night but could not do an ultrasound until morning.   So I left thinking he was going to do the surgery that night but the vet called around midnight to let me know that DaBeau was responding to the medication so they decided to wait until morning and do the ultrasound to get a better idea of what is going on.  When they called later that morning I was told that he had tumors on his spleen and his spleen will need removed.  They were not sure if he had tumors elsewhere until they went in but did not see any with the ultrasound.  Da came through the surgery fine and they did not find any tumors in his abdomen.

He had a hard time and a couple setbacks the night of the surgery with his heart rate and his abdomen extending.  He had to stay an extra night in the hospital so that they can keep a close eye on him.  I went and visit him the day after the surgery and the following day.  He looked so sad and drugged up.  My heart just broke seeing him like that and hope that he continues to improve.

They sent the tumor out for biopsy to see what it is.  Da is healing slowly but nicely.  It's hard because he just doesn't understand what is going on.  He is on pain medication but seems to be in a little pain here and there.  He is a barker and barks at everything and has hardly barked at all since he's been home.

The vet bill is $6,080 which about took my breath away and I am asking for some help in paying for his surgery.  Anything will help and anything above the cost of the vet bill will go to Columbus Pet Rescue(CPR).  At CPR, we only have fosters who take cats and dogs into their home to care for them until they find their forever homes.  We also work at sporting events to raise money to pay the vet bills of the cats and dogs we take in.

I really want to thank anyone who donates to Da's surgery and stay in the hospital and help DaBeau in this scary time.  He is a part of my family and is loved dearly..
