Many of you know the journey we have been on the past 2 years but for those that don't here is our story.
In July 2012 Shawn was hospitalized for a brain tumor. It was removed July 26, 2012 and we thought our lives would return to normal...well, "our normal". Little did we know that the problems Shawn was experiencing had little to do with the brain tumor and through a two year journey we have a diagnosis of "autoimmune encephalitis" more specifically "VGKC Complex Antibody-Associated Limbic Encephalitis" which in terms we can understand...his immune system is attacking his brain and causing it to be inflammed. Side effects from this are seizures, uncontrollable shaking, mood swings (depression) and many other symptoms. Of course this has all resulted in a loss of his job which has meant a big hit to our household budget. Shawn has been denied disability TWICE and we are now waiting on a hearing before the Social Security Disability Court in November. We have been blessed by our church family (where I work) and our friends but bottom line...we are struggling. The medical bills keep coming in and there is not even enough money to cover our normal household expenses let alone any medcial treatments that Shawn has coming up.
Monday, August 18th Shawn will FINALLY start IVIG treatments. Shawn's condition is not curable but we are praying with these treatments we can stop the damage that is being done by his own body. Even with insurance these tests will cost about $400 each. He will continue these treatments through October where he will then be reassessed after another spinal tap and MRI.
We know that God will make a way. We are asking you to pray about helping our family. If God puts us on your heart to give, we would be truly thankful. If you can't give at this time we certainly understand. We would still ask that you would pray for our family and share our story with others.
Our faith has gotten us through this storm and will continue to see us through to the end. We are gratful and humbled by any and all gifts that are given.
