Sheena Survives House Fire

Donation protected
In June of 2016 Pima Animal Care Center came to be in custody of a small black and white dog who had been abandoned by her owners in a yard. This sweet dog was shy, timid and of course stressed entering into the kennel environment. A shelter technician named Stephanie was the PACC employee to care for Sheena upon her arrival.

Two months later, this sweet dog would cross Stephanie’s path again when she was bought into the employee area after having been injured by her kennel mate. Two months at PACC, still no home, and now injured. Stephanie’s heart went out for this little broken angel, so she called her husband right away to see how he felt about adoption. Sheena, took her freedom ride from the shelter, and for the first time, knew human love and compassion with Stephanie and Paul. She finally had her forever home. Sheena blossomed from the timid fearful dog that came into the shelter, to a happy girl who now had the hearts of her mommy and daddy.

On June 6 2019, in the early morning hours, a fire started in Stephanie and Paul’s home. Luckily, they were able to get Sheena, their turtle, and themselves to safety. Unfortunately, this has left them displaced as their house is to badly damaged for them to return. A neighbor of theirs, was kind enough to open her home up in their time of need but Sheena cannot stay there during the day while Stephanie and Paul are at work. Julie, the owner of Central Pet provided Sheena free doggy daycare at her facility during the day for two weeks, and the Humane Society was kind enough to pay for two weeks as well.

It is now been 6 weeks since the fire and Stephanie and Paul cannot afford the board for Sheena to have a place to go while they are at work. They have about 3-5 more months of being out of their home and are at a loss as to what to do.

In the three years I have had the pleasure of working with Stephanie at our local shelter, I can truly say she is one of the most thoughtful kindhearted people I’ve known. Stephanie gives 110% of herself to the animals and treats each one with such kindness and compassion. Being displaced from her home, seeing her little angel Sheena emotionally struggle with all this change and upheaval is truly weighing on her heart. This is an individual who gives so much to her community through her work at PACC for 8 years now, and has such a devotion for the animals of Pima County. It is in her time of need, and in an effort to keep her family together as best they can be, that I am reaching out to you in hopes you will help me to raise the money they need to afford Sheena’s doggy daycare while they wait for their home to become livable again.
