We Have To Move
Unfortunatley, things have gotten a little less happy in the past year. Laura had to step down in her work position a little over a year ago or risk possibly loosing her job. This resulted in a pay cut in about a third of what she was making.
Added end to that my health has gotten worse. My arthritis has gotten to a point where I am either in a wheelchair or a bed. I cannot walk at all anymore and need a ramp to get in and out of the house along with someone to push me as it's too painful to use my own hands and shoulders.
While these ailements are debilitating, they are also causing a big problem with our finances, especially with Laura's lower salary. My prescriptions are expensive even with insurance then there are medical supplies not covered by insurance at all which amount to over $300 a month. I have even been missing dosages of my pain medication to make it go longer but this is causing me a lot of stress which adds to the pain and my age isn't helping any as I'm almost 70 now.
Now our lease is up and the rent has been raised and we cannot afford to stay in this unit. The rental office said they have a flat available in ten days that will be $600 a month less however we have to come up with a $500 transfer fee plus about $1500 for movers. We can't manage to get that amount of money together ourselves and have no family that can help out, so this is the only way I can see to get us into a more livable situation.
The good news is that if we can get this money together with the much lower rent, I won't have to worry about getting my medical supplies anymore and the less stress will ease some of the pain I have to deal with.
Laura and I have never done anything like this before and apologize for having to ask for donations but our backs are up against the wall unless we can raise this money by next week.
Thank you so much for reading this and for helping us.

I'm sorry I haven't updated for awhile. It's just that my old body hasn't been doing well with all the moving stress I've been dealing with, but at least we're finally in the new place.
We had to pay for 'two' movers (since the first group said they couldn't complete the move - after showing up over 10 hours late and working 6 hours - because they couldn't fit certain pieces through the door). So stuck with an unfinished move and fighting the mounting stress since we had to be completely out from the old address within the next 24 hours, we had to find movers that were available to move the remaining furniture the following day which happened to be a Sunday on a big holiday weekend at the end of the month plus find and rent another truck for the new movers. An almost impossible situation. But we did find them on the UHaul moving services site. We managed to get two men from another company who had no problems getting the remaining furniture moved out of the old house and into the new (thank goodness for 'professionals').
Hooray, we were finally out and moved into our new place. We love it as I can get in and out of a home without me being in a position where I could fall and seriously hurt myself. So I thought everything from now on should be easy-peasy...you know, sometimes even I am amazed at how nieve I can be.
We first realized that our cell phones wouldn't work in the house (we're on the ground level with a nice view on one side but below ground level on the other-think of sort of a Hobbits home). So we had to get a landline -additional expenses now for the phone and the service. So I have to call the cable company and get a reasonable price for cable, internet, AND phone. I got a great price. All I had to do was wait for the cable guy, should be easy, right? Well, he shows up and he doesn't have a drill long enough to get through the wall...so we have to wait for another day for another cable guy who does that sort of thing to arrive and once that was done, again, we had to wait for the first guy to come back to finish everything.
By this time, my 'sweet' nature was starting to disappear but once he was done, he said all I had to do was to call in to the cable company and get the phone line activated. As soon as he left, I was on the phone (my cell phone that is, that I had to practically stick out the door to get reception). When I asked for my line to be activated, they said there was no phone service on my account and I insisted that there was and I had the phone number the person had given me as well. They insisted that I was wrong and it would cost me $15 extra a month. I told them to temporarily charge me ( I needed to be able to reach someone for help if I became sick) but to check their records to find the original discussion. They said they would and they would could me back. One day goes by then two, three days...no call back plus I get an email that said my monthly bill would be over $200. WHAT!!!!
Okay, back on the phone. Three times I'm disconnected and I have to go through the whole speech again. They said they would check on it and get back to me. I'm an idiot because I believed them. Four days later I'm on the phone explaining everything...again. I gave them my phone number in case we were disconnected they told me they would check the records and call me back but I had had it by then, letting them know exactly what I was going to do if this wasn't fixed (I was going to drop them and go with their competitors). Well, they tried to calm me down by offering free channels but my concern was the monthly charge and I was not about to pay that charge each month. I called three days later and went through the same routine again. This time I got the name of the person who said she would take care of it and call back in a couple of hours. Of course she didn't, and we got an email that said the next day saying our bill would be additional dollar more each month. Okay, no more 'ms nice guy' so this time I wasn't going to be placated when I called next. Ready to let whoever got on the phone have it, I was astonished when the rep told me that I would have the original price I agreed on and the phone price would be dropped. Now if it was so simple to fix this, why couldn't all those people before this have done that (guess they got tired of listening to me complain, knowing I wasn't going to stop until this was settled).
This is enough for today, but this isn't the end of everything that went on. So I'll come back tomorrow to finished this rant. :-)
Bless you and much love,

I know I already told you about the first day of moving but I don't think I went any further then saying that I fell asleep assuming that the move was done. When I woke up later that morning after sleeping on the couch all night, I found that they didn't finish the move after all, because they said that they couldn't take several pieces out as they were too big to get through the door, they even took off the railing for the bannister to take it down the steps (but didn't put it back on).
That meant we had to hire another set of movers plus another moving van to get everything out - more unexpected expenditures. We were lucky to get any mover plus a van since it was Labor Day. Fortunately, they arrived on time, got the furniture out and into out new place, plus they screwed the loose railing back into place.
This left Laura and I just the rest of Sunday and Monday to clear the small stuff out. We left at half past midnight and came back at 7:00 am Monday to finished. At 11:00 that night, I said enough and not to worry about the cabinets and such, because we lived there 8 years and they would have to put in all new appliances and cabinets anyway as nothing had been updated since we moved in.
I had to leave. My hands and fingers were badly swollen (my right hand was twice the size of my left). And I was really irritated as the woman who originally moved us said she would definitely come back Monday to help us clear the rest of the stuff out (I thought she offered this since she was 10 hours late for our move...she even called me the next night and said she'd be there for sure. Yeah, I tried calling her all day Monday and never got a reply).
That's it for tonight, (this is the second time I'm writing this tonight as I once again touched a wrong spot and everything disappeared). Tomorrow is the tale of my new wheelchair that was supposed to be delivered Tuesday plus the bit about a land line phone having to be put in (ach! More money!)
But we're out now and I'm finally getting happy, so until tomorrow
Bless you and much love,
Carole (TACS) & Laura
(Hopefully, this update is written better then the last one...at least, I was able to re-read it once before sending it)
Eehhhh, I accidentally just hit 'POST' and sent out that update...without checking anything...
This is 'PART I'...PLEASE, PLEASE FORGIVE the errors and spelling/grammar mistakes (just like that '?' at the end of the first paragraph...I meant to put an exclamation mark.).
I'll send out part 2 tomorrow, and let you know why we had to get a second group of movers and rent another van (then I have to tell you about my 'Adventures in Getting a Phone Line Put In' story).
Bless You and Much Love,
Carole (TACS) & Laura
This has been one #%# 10 days. I don't know whether to laugh or cry (did a bunch of both during this time). It was around 10 days ago when the rental office said we could have an apartment that would be ideal for my physical problems with the wheelchair...but we had less than 2 weeks to come up with the money. We didn't know how that was going to happen until we discovered what wonderful friends we have with the help of GoFundMe. Thank you all so much?
The first problem came with finding getting movers that would be available. I found a pair who said they could do it. Laura and started packing but I hadn't heard from them so called them back 5 days before the movies. That's when I was hit with "Oh, we're sorry. Our regular job has I working on the Eastern Shore this weekend. I was going to call you thus evening." Speechless, I could only hang up and tell Laura before I blew up. So we looked up the UHaul moving section. The one we originally wanted weren't available that weekend (Labor Day) so we found one that was and contracted for them to move us at 8:30 am, Friday. So that problem - seemed - to be fixed.
We were up until midnight that Thursday and we fell asleep, getting back up at 4:30 am. Well, 8:30 came and went, 9, 10 then at 10:30, I called the movers...answering machine...which was full and couldn't take anymore. 11:00, noon...12:30pm, I get a call from the movers. Apparently, their previous customer caused some sort of problem but they were almost finished and would be there shortly. Well, that was a relief...
(Forgive me if this is a repetition of something I said before, but I have more to add to that day that I'm sure I didn't mention before now that everything's done.)
2:00, 3:00, 3:45. I made several more calls - answering machine. The mover, she finally calls me again. She said she's picking up several more movers so our move would be faster but she's dropping off 2 other guys (to pick up the truck Laura and I rented until 6pm) right now and they would cone right to our house and start the mover until she gets there herself.
Yeah, 4:00 and quarter of 5 goes by. No ones returning my calls. She calls me at 5:15 to see how the move was going. I kind of lost it then when I told her the men WEREN'T there and I had called the UHaul truck and no one had picked up the truck either. She seemed shocked and I told her that we only rented the truck til 6pm. She said that I shouldn't worry, she'll take care of everything and call me back. At 5:55, I got a call from her saying she got the truck and sending dome guys now and they should be there in 5 minutes.
Ten hours after the time they should have arrived, one young man shows up and starts to move all the boxes. By himself, he managed to move all the boxes in a quick and orderly fashion - and hour and a half later, two other men show up to help move the heavy furniture. The boss shows up over an hour later.
It was around 11:15 pm by then and I couldn't take much more and than Laura took me to the new place
just one day at a time i look after mum at her home she has Alzheimer's disease my stuff is in storage 2 containers so not look forward to sorting that out
