Our family has been geographically separated for the last several years due to work. My husband is prior military and had a few years overseas, when he got out he decided to pursue his child hood dream of law enforcement, so off to the academy he went. After graduating the academy we decided to wait until the training phase was over before rejoining the forces under one roof. We have school age children so making the transition over summer vacation was a must for me to minimize any disruption.

We have spent the last two plus years commuting back and forth from Dallas to Harker Heights to each other on our off days. We had a puppy named Clark that passed away from old age a few days before Christmas 2017. We spent over a year looking for our next four legged family member. February 2019, that’s when Cooper fell in our laps and filled the missing piece of our family. Fast forward to current...

We have spent the last few weeks looking at homes and applying, only to have our hopes squashed because previous applicants had been approved and we found ourself back at the drawing board of searching. We finally found a home for our family and the application was approved, we are scheduled to move in July 1st. Finally!!!!
$1800 deposit is what we had to put down.
Not a big deal as we had been saving for this move, what we weren’t planning on was the accident, and the near loss of our pet.

So now we depleted savings for the new house we were planning to budget paycheck to paycheck for a few weeks to make the rest happen, knowing that if we could just get back together the rest would work itself out.

Now after the accident we are the most grateful for opportunity to wake up all together on another day.

June 24th at around 10 am was no different than any other Monday morning for us. Our routine trip back to Harker Heights, the kids and I and our pup, headed back home until Friday night when we’d head back to Dallas to be with our hero.

Except this time, a blow out of our tire changed our plans.
A tire blow out ended in us rolling in the vehicle a few times before coming to a rest,
Hearing the screams of my children as our vehicle flipped over and over is a sound I will never forget. Once the vehicle stopped rolling I waited a few seconds to see if there would be any additional impact, nothing happened so while we all hung upside down in our seats, I had enough room to unbuckle and crawl to the back seat and sit on the inside of the roof of my car between their two car seats, unbuckle them and sit with my two babies ages 4 & 1 in my lap trying to keep them calm as the awesome people that stopped helped get us out of the vehicle.
Once we were out they asked if there was any body else and I asked about our dog.

One person said they saw the dog run off the highway.

After all being released from the hospital with life in our bodies, we took to Facebook in hopes to find our boy Cooper.

With over 100 shares in an hour, Cooper was located this morning by a citizen of Lacy-Lakeview, Tammy Brown, and taken to the police department where the Chief and his amazing staff kept him fed and comfortable until we could get reunited with him this afternoon.

At quick glance Cooper seemed in good spirits but the pain was evident as we loaded him into the car.

Straight to the vet we went, where we were informed that he has a good bit of road rash with necrotic tissue and maggots infested his open wounds, some bruising both internal/external, dehydrated and a broken femur at the hip joint on the right side and a few other things. Surgery was unavoidable for a full recovery and it will be several months of rehab before he’ll have use of that leg again. $1500-$2500 for the surgery and initial treatment and equipment to walk him after not including follow up visits.

Additionally Cooper will be in the ICU at the vet clinic at least until Friday so we still don’t have our Coop home yet.

Now our move to live under one roof together may be put on hold as we have to find a way to cover vet expenses, purchase a vehicle and two new car seats.

Continued love and support to Bring Coop home would be greatly appreciated.
