Cure for Kyle Kikuta
Donation protected
Meet Kyle Kikuta. Our swim coach, teacher and friend. In July 2008, when Kyle was just 22 years young, he was diagnosed with Brugada syndrome after collapsing on the pool deck during a swim meet. Brugada syndrome is a potentially life-threatening heart rhythm disorder that is sometimes inherited. People with Brugada syndrome have an increased risk of abnormal heart rhythms from the lower chambers of the heart. As a result of Kyle’s diagnosis, Kyle was treated with a medical device called an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD).
Fast forward to 2016 when Kyle began having additional complications where he experienced multiple fainting episodes as a result of his irregular heartbeats and palpitations. Kyle was treated with cardiac ablation surgery in December 2016. Cardiac ablation is a procedure to scar or destroy tissue in your heart that's allowing incorrect electrical signals to cause an abnormal heart rhythm. Frustratingly, the fainting episodes continued and he was treated again in March 2018 in Thailand. Now that he has had more than 20 of these fainting spells and cardiac arrest incidents, he will be having the procedure for a third time in late November of this year in Los Angeles with Dr. Koonlawee Nadamanee. Sadly, his medical costs are increasing and any financial assistance you can provide would be appreciated.
With Kyle being an integral and positive part of our swim community and our swimmers' lives, please consider donating.
Donations will be used by Kyle for the following:
· Upcoming costs for travel to LA later this month for cardiac ablation surgery and March 2018 lingering expenses from travel to Thailand for the same surgery
· Rising medical costs & any unforeseen medical costs
· Uber/Lyft costs as he is unable to drive
