Cultural Architecture & Engineering

My goal for the education campaign is to help the youth and young adults get engaged in the cultural architecture through engineering models utilizing our first home , which is the Tipi. My journey spans over a life time exploring and learning about how the Tipi was a vital piece of a peoples way of life. As an entrepreneur and with the new technologies in green building I soughtout to reconnect the home of our ancestors to the modern type of home construction used today. My goal of being was to re-identify the people’s living needs by creating a home that was of cultural significance. My approach started with building tipi bird houses as a way of making different unique designs relating to a persons vision as handed down generation to generation and doing what I loved. The Tipi home design for modular construction was created with the help of good people outside my reservation willing to share their knowledge and starting me on my next journey. I believe with right toolset I can achieve this great work for the community and possibly the world with a high performance home that can help save lives, however this is not acheivable yet without the finances necessary to purchase the computers and software along with building materials. My next goal is to finish my prototype for presentation utilizing the help of the community members and show casing the engineering knowledge of this type of structure. My village concept was entered into the Oceti Sakowin (Seven Council Fires)MIT Solve Challenge under the Lakota Tiwahe(family)Tipi Project and achieved a runner up in the challenge. At this point I believe I can bring this to scale level success by knowledge sharing with the younger generations so we can get the best out of each other thus creating a path to acheivable knowledge prosperity to help change the way we live. Under this concept I have used a word from our language to help keep this way of life connected through the eyes of the people. This word is Ista ( eye) pronounced ee- sh-tah, standing for-Innovation, Science,Technology, Art- I.S.T.A.
